Hyakumonogatari kaidankai (“A Gathering of One Hundred Supernatural Tales”) was a popular pastime during the Edo period. People gathered in the evening before lighting a hundred candles, then each participant in turn told a ghost story. After each story, a candle was snuffed out, until it was completely dark and we waited in anguish for the arrival of a true spirit..
Like its distant Japanese cousin Hyakumonogatari Kaidankai, 360° explores the interplay between light and darkness. Three actors and dancerswill improvise an intimate tale, which highlighting entirely depends on the audience and its right to define what is seen and what remains in the shadows.
A space where the public sits freely, without hierarchy, in groups or isolated. A few mirrors, placed in various places in the room. Each member of the audience is given a headlamp, which will be turned on as the room plunges into darkness. The vigil can begin…
And this vigil constantly fluctuates between actions of the actors, lamps which will be sometimes lit, sometimes extinguished. In this truly collective show, it is the audience who creates the atmosphere.
